Do I need to say much more about C215 aka Christian Guemy? The Parisian artist with his unique stencilling style already had us in complete awe in 2008. 2009 seemed like an even more productive year filled with amazing collaborations, travels and work after work! So let's check out what the good man has been up to in 2009!We selected a bunch of photos from his Flickr as a guide through C215's 2009.
If we did a stencil of the week, this definitely would be it. A kick-ass, full-color version of Snub's "I'd rather be a hammer than a nail" (which also released in a small quantity of hand pulled prints recently, be quick!"). This version is 10 layers and it's all from sketch, no computers have been used! This one is currently showing @ the gallery walls of the mutate britain event, another version on galvanized steel will be up at the Tate the Biscuit event tonight and a third version on Canvas will be up @ the unholy grail exhibition. More kick-ass Snub work work after the jump. Read an interview we did with him a while ago here, and read a recent one our friends with StencilhistoryX did with him here.
Orticanoodles stuff is just amazing. Great stencils and paste ups with an impressively unique cutting style. It's a real shame I haven't featured them here before! So here ya go, artists of the week. Orticanoodles.
I woke up this morning realizing I dreamed of the works of Ben Slow. Probarly because I was browsing trough his work last night, all feverish and delusional (I have a cold, but I'm not handling it very well), and the drips in his works very much resemble the drips of snot I'm leaving around when I sneeze. Anyhow, when I realized that I dreamed of his work (do not remember what) it was decided. Ben Slow is artist of the week. The UK based Ben Slow likes to make a mess, but that doesn't mean any loss of detail. Actualy, the detail in his work is amazing. His work consists mainly out of portraits, and they're all striking! So, enjoy some more of his work..and I might think we'll have to feature him in the near feature. Flickr account here, webshop here, you know the deal.
By now everyone must know that you should not take artist of the 'week' too literally. It's time to put up someone knew though, and that always seems difficult before I'm really busy with it. As soon as I put my mind to it though, I realize that there is always a particular artist or work that has been on my mind for the last period.
And the artist that has been on my mind the latest weeks is one to be reckoned with: The talented Liliwenn. This artist has been on the blog twice before, and we just know she'll be on here plenty more times. So why is she artist of the week? Well her work just strikes me. It's strong, it has the identity of someone doing her own thing. It's not like anything out there, every paint splatter is a signature. I also know Liliwenn is hungry, hungry for more canvas, for more places to paint at and to expand and improve her techniques. In the short time that I've got to known her work, she became one of my favorites. I believe that Liliwenn is going to be big, so we feature her while she's still humble ;). Enjoy her work!
This just dipped in the crackforyoureyes Flickr Pool! Work by the mysterious Señor X from Spain. Check out more of his clever work here. Actualy, we like his work a lot, so we present you with a new artist of the week: Señor X! Oh and don't forget to check out his blog.
At first we thought Luke was Brittish because he's always surrounded by Britains finest street artists, but he turns out to be homegrown and from our very own stickercity: Eindhoven. And if Eindhoven is stickercity, Luke is the king because he is absolutely everywhere. Check out the great works by Luke on his Flickr or fotolog, buy his work @ his shop or enjoy his blog about 'broodjes frikandellen with mayonaise'. Ohyeh, before we forget, Luke is a proper photographer as well! Check out his photographs @ flickr as well.
Chase makes us happy. So much positive energy bundled in one artist equals colorful street art explosions all across the globe. His work is uplifting, thoughtful, inspiring and a whole lot more of these big words. No doubt about it, Chase deserves to be the artist of this week! Peep the feature we did with him not too long ago right here.
Not just one artist of the week, but a whole collective! The X-streets collective members rule the streets of Amsterdam and Basel, you can't walk the streets without seeing their creatures. The X-streets collective members are IVES.one (NL), BUSTart (CH), MLSS (NL), Karma (UK), Oei! (NL), Zaira (CH), Fons (NL), Skate (UK) and Robe (NL). We've been a huge fan of the X-streets collective since we went to their exposition and after party last year. They are a versatile, colorful crew who don't limit their art to any known boundries.
