Amsterdam is a bit of a Museum, and not the modern kind. Also not the kind that gives Banksy the chance to make it his own. Just an old fashioned museum. Nothing wrong with that, unless you're trying to do something with contemporary/modern art. With the city's only big Contemporary museum closed 'till at least 2012 we have to get this form of art in smaller doses. That's why it's great to see that artists and agents are not standing still and keep on finding new ways to let it all flow to the public.

Joe Holbrook's work is that twilight zone you enter when you leave the club/pub or wherever you might go around 05:00 AM. From the press release:
'What happens at night when everybody is left wandering home? After the clubs have blasted their last basses, after the fried chicken take away's are attacked by hungry hipsters? The city is left with the residue of nightly escapades. . "I've been noticing every time you get in a bus or tube in London nowadays somebody is eating out of a chicken box. And nobody really sees it, if you know what I mean?" '
We do actually! His work reminds me a bit of the pictures from Cardiff based photographer Maciej Dakowicz, capturing the same kind of twilight zone. Anywya, Joe Holbrook has a show coming up @ the Sid Lee collective gallery in Amsterdam on the 29th of January. More info after the jump.

So as the story goes, a while ago Kaymir and I got invited to showcase our own photography at the X-streets show which opened yesterday (12/12). All the days of stress and preperations really paid of, because the 3 story high ABC treehouse gallery was looking great from top to bottom.

If there is one absolut pioneer in stencil art it's the Dutch Hugo Kaagman. Hugo has been active since the late '70's, displaying his life-size stencil art around Amsterdam. The last decades he has been painting from buildings 'till airplanes around the world. Today he held a book signing for the release of his book with the appropiate title 'Stencil King', released under Lebowski Publishers. The 160 page book is an amazing look in both history as current work of Kaagman. Some nice pics @ the book release by Wojofoto after the jump

You know when a top notch artist like Fin DAC sais he's gonna step his game up, you can expect some amazing stuff. We already saw a big leap with his wicked Samuel Beckett piece done a while ago, and after that some sick pieces in Paris, amazing freehand stuff in Amsterdam and now some next level stuff again. I love the Johnny Thunders piece he did which is recently hanging @ the lock inn, and the Jimi Hendrix piece is not bad at all either! Big up 2 Fin DAC, can't wait to see what's the next thing he'll be up to. All these pieces after the jump!

Well this used to be a hall of fame! These old docks in Amsterdam used to be the center of creatives amongst shady trunk deals and street prostitutes. There used to be some amazing graffiti on these walls, Wojofoto has documented this time amazingly! More after the jump.
